Live, Learn, Dream, Run - Girls on the Run of Tucson

TMC had the honor of hosting Girls on the Run of Tucson (GOTR) for their culminating 5K event this Saturday. It was awe-inspiring.

GOTR is a program for 3rd through 5th grade girls that aims to transform how they perceive themselves and their place in society. Hopefully, the program captures and inspires the girls before their perception of self, that spark of confidence in self is eliminated.  This transformation is through the empowerment of achievement, and through building the tools to make a healthy lifestyle choices during this formative time in a girls life.

You know when you go to an event and you have an inkling before you get there of just how powerful it might be, but still you're a little bit overwhelmed by the impact on you? Yes? That was Saturday's GOTR 5K for me. Watching a gaggle of 3rd-5th graders and their running buddies bubble in anticipation of the challenge ahead and then, not much later watching them striding across the finish line radiant and powerful. I had tears in my eyes. I admit, I do tend toward the emotional, but I wasn't the only one. It wasn't just a race, or even a race, this weekend's 5K marked a milestone on a much bigger journey. A milestone of challenges met and overcome. Skills and confidence to deal with larger challenges that may lay ahead. Oh, to bottle up that energy, that promise, that hope, that power, and share it with all young women. Thank you GOTR - you are inspirational!
